Today I ran in my first running race. I woke up early and got dressed in a shirt and shorts with shoes and socks. I ate breakfast and my Mom took me for hot chocolate at Ernie's Coffee Shop. It was good.
We went to the race to register. We got the shirts and goodies and I got number 621. Then I watched the tennis players. Finally, the runners were getting ready for the race. My Mom and I did stretches with the other runners. Then the 10K runners lined up down the street and we lined up by the school.
Before the race started, I saw someone from my soccer team. His name is Evan and he was behind us at the start. The man with the horn went "WONNGG" just when the race started. I ran and at first the people were going too slow so I passed some people. Then I saw another friend of mine. His name was John. He went fast ahead but my thighs were hurting so I walked some.
After a minute I ran again. My Mom ran next to me the whole entire 2-mile race. She said some good things like "good job." It made me feel really, really good but I wanted to walk some more. She said keep going until the water. When I drank the water, I put the cup in the garbage bag. Then I ran again.
We were going on the way back and we ran across a bridge. I liked this part because I liked the bridge and I knew we were almost done. When I saw my Dad's truck, I knew I was almost there. Then we saw the finish area. I ran faster. I passed some more people. My Mom said to run really, really fast and I did. We ran across the street and to the finish together and my brother, BoBo and my Dad were yelling "Good job. Come on, you can do it." My Mom ran right next to me and Mom kept saying, "you're almost there. You can do it." Then we ran across the finish line and lots of people with cameras were taking pictures.
This one guy came and said he was with the newspaper and wanted to know if he could use our picture for his newpaper. My Mom said "yes."
I don't know my official time yet, but my Mom thinks it is about 20 minutes (possibly 18 because that is what BoBo says it is).
